Dear SJEA members and potential members,
As many of you know, the school board has asked the district to delay the start of the 20-21 school year. SJEA agrees with the decision to delay for the following reasons:
• It allows us more time to plan and get supplies, particularly PPE, and get these protections in place
• We can evaluate what is working for other schools and districts
• It gives us more time to train teachers on distance learning
This is not a final decision. The school board will need to call a special meeting and vote on a delayed start date. SJEA advocated for a later start date, and we thank the school board for listening to teachers. All logistics surrounding this decision—pay periods, trainings, possible extended school year calendar, etc., must be discussed with our union.
The union voice has never been more important. We are negotiating your working conditions in this unprecedented environment. Not a member yet? We have attached a membership form.
