SJEA News 7.19.20

I usually send the SJEA News every two weeks, but there is a lot happening these days and I want our members to be informed. Mark your calendar for Tuesday’s school board workshop to discuss delayed openings and Wednesday for negotiations (see details below).

Many of you have asked for detailed information regarding bargaining strategies—I can’t go into detail via public email or social media. What I can tell you is the safety and well-being of our educators is SJEA’s number-one priority. Our bargaining team has been meeting  all summer long, attending bargaining workshops with FEA, and communicating with union leaders across the state to understand what’s happening in their districts.

We are advocating for a delayed start. We are concerned about keeping the payroll dates intact, and the district knows our concerns.  Any modifications to the school year calendar and/or payroll dates must be discussed with our union.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate the start of the 20-21 school year. Most importantly, thank you for being a member.
